Lynnix's due date was Monday, Aug 3. Scott's family was coming up on Aug. 10 and I was going back to work on Aug. 11 for the work days and PD days before school started. Not knowing if Lynnix was going to be early, on time, or even decide to be late, I talked to my doctor, Dr. Henneman about inducing. We both were ok with it and decided that if Lynnix didn't come on her own, we would give her a nudge on Aug. 4th.
Well, Aug. 3rd came and went without our little lady's arrival. We got up at 5am, called the hospital to make sure that there was room for us, dropped Kasila off at Jodi's, and headed to the hospital by 6am. Dr. Henneman decided to use the pill (a more gentle nudge) to begin the inducement. After 4 hours, I was having contractions too close together to allow a 2nd dose, but not enough to actually go into full labor. This meant that I did a lot of walking and Scott got to join me. :) We walked all around the hospital and up and down stairs. I started out not dilated at all. Every 1-2 hours we would go back to the room and I would be checked. I was not dilating very fast, maybe 1/2 at each check, then back to walking around or sitting on an exercise ball. Our little girl was not wanting to show her sweet face yet. I was still having contractions, stronger than before but still not causing any change. FInally, my water broke about 5pm. This got me all excited. I thought things would start moving now…which they did not. About 8pm Dr. Henneman decided to start me on pitocin. I got all hooked up and about 10pm I asked for my epidural. By the time the anesthesiologist got there (1 1/2 hours later due to another patient) I was more than ready for it. My contractions were happening right the middle of my front so it took a little bit to get the epidural to work. He ended up giving me two full doses, plus I'd hit the button for the extra drip each chance I could. Once it kicked in, about 12:30, both Scott and I were able to sleep. It had already been a long day of waiting.
About 3am, the nurses came in fairly quickly. Lynnix had dropped and they couldn't get her heart on the monitors. They came in to check on her. It was time to deliver! I had aroused when they came in, but one of them had to wake up Scott. Things started moving quickly at that point. It took 4 pushes and our little girl graced the world with her presence. I was able to hold her immediately and there were no complications at all. That was lucky because her umbilical cord at a good knot in it and was wrapped around her ankle. They marked her birth at 3:51am weighing 7lbs 13oz and 20inches on Wednesday, Aug. 5.
Lynnix started out as a good nurser. However, she was tongue-tied so it became painful to nurse her as she couldn't maintain her latch. We were able to get into our dentist, Dr. Maxiner, within a few days and get it taken care of. He used a little laser and clipped under her tongue a little. She was a better nurser without it being too painful after that. :) I continued pumping, as well as nursing occasionally, since I was going to have to go back to work anyways.
Heading home the next day.
